Find and Replace Text Tool

Find & Replace

Your text is processed locally in your browser and is not uploaded by this tool.

How to Use This Tool

  1. Paste your text into the "Your Text" box.
  2. Type the text you want to find, and what you want to replace it with.
  3. Turn on "Case-sensitive" if letter case should matter, and uncheck "Replace all occurrences" if you only want the first match replaced.
  4. Click Replace — the result appears on the right along with how many replacements were made.

Example

Given the input Hello world. Hello Brekzy., searching for Hello and replacing with Hi (case-sensitive, replace all) produces:

Hi world. Hi Brekzy.

The tool reports 2 replacements made.

Why "Find" Is Always a Literal Match

Characters like ., *, and $ have special meaning in regular expressions. Since this tool is meant for straightforward text replacement rather than pattern matching, whatever you type into "Find" is treated as the exact literal text to search for, special characters included — so searching for 3.99 matches that exact string, not "3", any character, then "99". If you need real pattern-based matching, use the Regex Tester's Replace mode instead.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does "Find" support regular expressions?

No — the Find field always matches the exact literal text you type, including any characters that would otherwise have special meaning in a regular expression (like a period or asterisk). If you need pattern-based matching, use the Regex Tester's Replace mode instead.

What if my replacement text contains a "$" sign?

It's inserted exactly as typed. This tool escapes "$" internally before running the replacement, so a literal dollar amount like "$1" in your replacement text appears in the result unchanged rather than being misinterpreted.

What's the difference between case-sensitive and case-insensitive matching?

With case-sensitive matching on, "Hello" only matches "Hello" exactly. With it off, "Hello", "hello", and "HELLO" are all treated as the same match.

Does this replace every occurrence, or just the first?

By default it replaces every occurrence. Uncheck "Replace all occurrences" to replace only the first match instead.

How is the replacement count calculated?

It's the number of times "Find" actually matched in your original text. With "Replace all occurrences" off, only the first of those matches is actually replaced, but the count still reflects however many were found.

What happens if "Find" doesn't match anything?

The result is identical to your original text, and the replacement count shows 0 — nothing is silently altered.

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

No. Every replacement happens locally in your browser using JavaScript. Nothing you type here is sent to Brekzy or stored anywhere.

Is this tool free to use?

Yes, completely free, with no account, sign-up, or usage limit.
