Convert Binary to Text

Your data is processed locally in your browser and is not uploaded by this tool.

Each byte should be 8 digits (0 or 1), separated by spaces or line breaks.

How to Use This Tool

  1. Paste binary into the box — each byte as 8 digits, separated by spaces or line breaks.
  2. Click Convert to Text.
  3. The decoded text appears below, or a specific error message if something in the input isn't valid.

Example

Given the input 01001000 01101001, this tool decodes it as:

Hi

Each 8-digit group is one UTF-8 byte: 01001000 is 72 (H), and 01101001 is 105 (i).

Full UTF-8 Compatibility

This tool decodes the actual UTF-8 byte sequence rather than assuming one byte always equals one plain-ASCII character. That distinction matters: Urdu and other non-Latin text typically uses 2 bytes per character, and most emoji use 4, so a naive one-byte-per-character decoder would produce garbled output for anything beyond basic English. Paste binary produced by Brekzy's Text to Binary Converter and it decodes back to your exact original text, whatever script or symbols it contains.

How Invalid Input Is Handled

Every byte must be exactly 8 digits, made up only of 0s and 1s. A byte of the wrong length, or containing any other character, is reported with a specific error naming the problem byte — never silently ignored or guessed at. If every byte is individually valid but the resulting byte sequence still isn't valid UTF-8 (for example, if a multi-byte character's bytes were cut off), you'll see a clear message rather than a garbled result.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this compatible with Brekzy's Text to Binary Converter?

Yes — this tool expects exactly the format that one produces: each byte as 8 binary digits, separated by spaces (or line breaks). Paste the output of Text to Binary Converter here and it converts straight back to your original text.

Why does this need UTF-8, not just plain ASCII?

A simplistic decoder that treats every 8-bit group as one plain-ASCII character would corrupt anything outside basic English — Urdu text, most emoji, and many symbols all use more than one byte per character in UTF-8. This tool decodes the full UTF-8 byte sequence properly, so multi-byte characters come back correctly instead of as broken fragments.

Why do I sometimes get an error instead of a result?

Either a byte isn't exactly 8 digits, a byte contains something other than 0 or 1, or the byte sequence, while individually valid, doesn't form valid UTF-8 text once decoded (for example, if part of a multi-byte character's bytes are missing). In every case you get a specific message rather than silently mangled output.

Does this accept binary without spaces between bytes?

No — unlike hexadecimal (where 2 digits always means exactly 1 byte), a run of 0s and 1s with no separators is genuinely ambiguous to split into bytes correctly, so this tool requires bytes to be separated by spaces or line breaks, matching what Text to Binary Converter outputs.

Is my data uploaded anywhere?

No. Every conversion happens locally in your browser using JavaScript. Nothing you paste here is sent to Brekzy or stored anywhere.

Is this tool free to use?

Yes, completely free, with no account, sign-up, or usage limit.
